Information About Licorice root:
Common Uses: Licorice strengthens and restores the adrenal glands, while providing anti-inflammatory activity similar to the adrenal’s cortisol. It will soothe the respiratory and GI tracts and is a specific for peptic ulcers. It has mild estrogenic properties and is often used for menopausal relief. Licorice may exascerbate high blood pressure and so it is recommended that you consult your herbalist or alternative health care provider before using.
Suggested Uses: 40 to 60 drops in water or juice three to four times daily or as recommended by your health practitioner.
Traditional Uses: Arthritis, peptic and duodenal ulcers, cough, bronchitis, gastritis, indigestion, dyspepsia, allergies, hepatitis, sore throats, laxative. Current research indicates that Licorice can prevent the formation of dental plaque.
Herbal Anecdote: King Tut and other rulers were buried with licorice roots in order to have their sweets for the next world.
