Common Uses: This is a 80 count bulk pak. The presence of sugars in the mouth creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. The activity of these bacteria produces an acidic environment that can eat away at tooth enamel and cause plaque to build up resulting in irritated and inflamed gums and eventually gum disease. Xylitol is a naturally occurring carbohydrate that does not affect insulin levels and raises the pH level in the mouth, neutralizing acids produced by sugar-fed bacteria. It is the only sugar substitute that can be ingested but not metabolized by streptococcus mutans, the bacteria responsible for the build-up of plaque on the teeth, effectively killing it.
