Herbal Anecdote: The name Yerba Santa, meaning “herb of the saints”, or “holy herb” was given to this plant by Spanish priests after learning of its extraordinary healing properties from the native southwestern people. Traditional Uses: Native Americans chewed or boiled the leaves into a tea used as an expectorant in the treatment of colds, coughs, asthma, tuberculosis and other respiratory ailments. It was used topically as a poultice or tea to treat bruises and rheumatic pain. |
